3 “MUST-HAVES” FOR YOUR OUTDOOR EVENT

We’ve got cabin fever and Spring fever all at the same time! Since we turned the clocks forward this past Sunday and Spring is now officially less than one week away, we cannot wait for all the outdoor weddings and events to begin again. This has us thinking about the necessities needed to be prepared for what Mother Nature might have in store.

With more and more events taking place outdoors, we pulled together some insights for this growing trend. From staying warm on a chilly day to escaping the rain, or maybe even snow if this weather doesn’t change soon, to holding down the fort (literally) in high winds, we’ve got just the right stuff to keep your day safe from the elements.

Linens & Escort Cards

We’ve all seen the gorgeous outdoor wedding with immaculate satin linens, perfectly printed escort cards and fantastic floral centerpieces that, with just one gust of wind the floral arrangement falls over and the escort cards and linen wind up blowing all around the lawn. Don’t let you wedding or event be the one that blew away! Instead, we suggest opting for a heavier linen material and perhaps a board or creative way to escort guests to their seats.

It might also be a great idea to incorporate charger plates into your design as well! Not only are these a warm, welcoming and inviting table element for guests, but they can also double as a “paper weight” to keep your linens and napkins in place.

Floral & Décor

To avoid any floral or décor mishaps, make sure any hanging décor or café lights are securely anchored, floral vases and centerpieces are weighted down and votives or tall cylinder vases are utilized to keep your candles lit throughout the night. If high winds are in the forecast, maybe nix the bowl of floating candles so your guests don’t get splashed, and instead utilize some more cylinder vases for your floating candles with pebbles or crystals in the bottom for extra weight and extra décor!

Tent & Shelter

Most outdoor events have some sort of tent to take shelter from precipitation or to find shade when the sun is beating down on a balmy day. But maybe take into consideration a tent or shelter that has walls just in case it’s too windy, rainy, chilly or all three! If you’re expecting a nice day, perhaps look into one with walls that can also open up so you don’t completely disregard the fact your event is taking place outside! If your wedding or event is taking place in the Spring or Fall, you may also want to entertain the idea of space heaters or chic throws, so you and your guests can keep warm on a chilly day or once the sun sets.
